Videos taken from a smart phone can be nauseating to watch if it was taken with shaky hands. The new Sony Xperia Z2 has a SteadyShot feature that takes smoother video with reduced shake. To see how this works in real life, the guys at MobileGeeks have compared the Sony Xperia Z2, the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the latest HTC One M8 in a free standing video recording shootout in a moving train.
The comparison shows that the Xperia Z2 is far superior than the competition despite not having an Optical Image Stabiliser. The sample video turns out to be incredibly smooth and it is a huge difference with the shaky videos taken by the other two. The latest HTC One M8 still includes the same old Ultrapixel camera as the previous HTC One M7 but they have traded off its hardware Optical Image Stabiliser for a secondary camera.
According to HTC, the One M8’s software based “Smart Stabilisation” would perform better than last year’s OIS. However a side by side test between the M8 and M7 revealed poorer stability. Looks like HTC has taken a step backwards with their camera, which is no doubt their Achilles’ Heel.
If you’re still waiting for the Xperia Z2, Sony Mobile Malaysia still says that it is coming very soon but without giving any specific dates. The last we heard was targeting end of April but we have yet to see any local launch details. Check out both comparison videos after the break.
If you haven’t seen it yet, do check out our hands-on with the Xperia Z2. Although it features the same 20.7MP camera as the previous Xperia Z1, the image quality appears to have been improved as well. You can view our photo comparison of it here.
