red ONE has emerged as Frost & Sullivan Malaysia’s MVNO operator of the year for 2014. Out of the 15 MVNOs (Mobile Virtual Network Operators) in the country, red ONE is the only postpaid operator and they stood out as the fastest growing operator with over 200,000 subscribers to date.

For those who are new to red ONE, they were previously under RedTone. Just recently, they had undergone extensive management restructure and branding exercise which now offers something different for personal and business users. While other popular MVNOs like TuneTalk are on the prepaid model, red ONE goes against the grain with a postpaid offering that starts from just RM8/month. This makes it the most affordable postpaid plan in Malaysia and it is even offering free calls within their own network.

There are 3 plans available that attracts a monthly commitment of RM8, RM58 and RM88 respectively. The cheapest RM8/month plan offers voice calls at 15 sen/minute and SMS at 10 sen each to all networks. All calls within red ONE are free of charge while SMS are charged at a lower 5 sen/SMS. For a minimal monthly commitment, this makes it attractive to casual users that hardly finish the standard RM30/month minimum prepaid validity top up. The higher the plan you commit, calls to other networks get cheaper to as low as 10sen/min with its RM88/month plan.

If you need data, they charge RM0.10 per MB on the usual pay as you go model. However there’s are also offering optional data bundles from 100MB for RM5/month up to 3GB for RM60/month. The 1GB and 3GB data plans can be “unlimited” at additional RM5/month. Of course, speeds will be throttled down but there’s no excess pay as you go charge. Coverage wise, red ONE reception should be extensive as it rides on Celcom’s vast nationwide network.

Just recently, they have also started offering a special bundle with the new HP Slate 6 VoiceTab. They are giving additional RM120 (RM10 x 12 months) rebate when you sign up with RedOne’s RM58 postpaid plan. More details on the Slate 6 offer here.
