VIDEO: Samsung Galaxy S5 Water Resistance gets tested in a swimming pool and washing machine

Samsung tries to make an all weather device on the Samsung Galaxy S5 which comes with dust and water resistance with IP67 rating. This isn’t the first time they released a water resistant device. In our hands, the previous Galaxy S4 Active which is also IP67 rated had failed to work, after being thrown into a pool. We believed this is due to its removable back cover design which has a higher risk of failure if its rubber linings are not sealed properly.

Surprisingly the latest HTC One M8 appears to be water friendly as well and it never boast any water resistant capabilities at all. Sony on the other hand has made its name with water resistant products ranging from its compact Xperia Go, Xperia Z smart phone, Xperia Z Ultra phablet and its Xperia Z2 Tablet.

During the Malaysian Galaxy S5 launch, the guys from Samsung re-emphasise that their device is designed for usage in the shower or outdoors in the rain and not for submerging into water. They are probably more conservative this time around but the IP67 rating actually means that it is actually capable of submerging into water up to 1 metre deep for 30 minutes.

Samsung has never advertised the Galaxy S5 as a pool friendly device but can it live up to the definition of IP67 rating? The guys TechSmartt had tested it in a swimming pool and even a front loading washing machine. Watch the video to see if it survives.

So it looks like the answer is Yes. However do take note that Samsung never claims that their Galaxy S5 can be submerged under water. If there are damages caused by liquids, there’s a risk that you won’t be eligible for warranty claims. At least this proves that the device should survive in your pocket when you’re accidentally or intentionally thrown into the pool at parties. Check out other Galaxy S5 torture tests below:
