Hands-on: Huawei MediaPad X1. High-end 7″ tablet to take on the Nexus 7

Apart from the MediaPad M1, Huawei has also announced the high-end MediaPad X1 tablet. Seen as a direct competitor to the Nexus 7 (2013), the MediaPad X1 comes with a high-resolution Full HD 7″ display that does 1920×1200 resolution and runs on a Quad-Core 1.6GHz processor which is the same as the MediaPad M1.

In the hands, the build quality is really impressive with a premium aluminium body that’s incredibly thin and light. It feels very compact for a 7 incher thanks to its thin bezel design. Overall it is just 7.2mm thick and weighs just 239 grams. As comparison the iPad mini (with Retina Display) is thicker at 7.5mm while the Nexus 7 is still heavier at 290 grams.

It also comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage that also can be expanded with microSD. There’s also 4G LTE support and you can actually use this as a phone as it comes with a earpiece speaker at the top. Despite having a rather slim profile, Huawei still manages to cram a 5,000mAh battery into the MediaPad X1. For taking pictures, it packs a rather high 13MP sensor from Sony with assisted LED flash while the front comes with a 5MP shooter. If you’re looking for a high-end tablet that makes calls and is compact in size, the MediaPad X1 is definitely worth considering.
