Meet Satya Nadella, the new CEO of Microsoft

After much speculation, Microsoft has named Satya Nadella as their 3rd CEO taking the baton from Steve Ballmer. It is a challenging time ahead for Microsoft as mobile and portable device grow at the expense of desktop computing. Microsoft has taken several steps to stay relevant in mobile game including partnership with Finnish maker Nokia and eventually acquiring it in 2013.

Satya is no regular joe and is a veteran at Microsoft with over 22 years of experience. Born at Hyderabad, India, the 46 year old CEO’s passion for Cricket had taught him valuable lessons in working as team and leadership. His family, curiosity and hunger for knowledge is what drives him and he was even part of the Windows NT team while pursuing for his Masters degree.

In his first email to Microsoft employees, Satya has outlined who he was, why he’s here, what’s Microsoft’s purpose and what Microsoft needs to do next. Innovation will be their main focus with the sole purpose of changing the world through technology. Satya is also strongly determined to remove any obstacles that would get in the way of innovation. He certainly has big shoes to fill but looks like he’s the perfect candidate for the job. Although he is seen as a technical and server type of guy, his engineering background and foundation would be paramount in moving the company forward. It will be interesting to see what would Satya do to take Microsoft to greater heights especially its Windows Phone and Surface tablets.

Meanwhile Bill Gates have stepped down as Chairman of the board and is replaced by John Thompson. However Bill isn’t out of the picture yet as he is taking up a new role as Technology advisor and will dedicate a third of his available time working with product groups at Microsoft.

Watch his special interview including welcome address from Bill Gates, Steve Ballmer and Microsoft’s new Chairman John Thompson after the break.
