The curved LG G Flex is now official in Korea, boasting it as the world’s first real curved smart phone. While the Samsung Galaxy Round is curved horizontally, the G Flex curves vertically like the Nokia 8110 “Banana Phone” with similar design as the Galaxy Nexus. The device was leaked with clear details last week.
With this curved shape, the G Flex offers more design benefits such as reduction of distance between the mouth and microphone while audio loudness is increased by 3db compared to typical flat designed smart phones. In addition, the display in landscape mode claims to offer an IMAX-like experience for video playback and gaming. LG has mentioned that this is a perfect fit in a back pocket but reality is that most of us would be keeping their phones over at the front.
The 6″ display on the G Flex is the largest Plastic OLED display that’s plastic base instead of using glass. The P-OLED display claims to be brighter and precise as it uses real RGB that contains all 3 sub-pixels in one pixel. Meanwhile its battery developed by LG Chem is the first ever curved battery that carries a rather huge 3,500mAh capacity.
While most smart phones today including the curved Galaxy Round offers Full HD resolution, the G Flex 6″ display falls short by offering a notch down 720p resolution of 1280×720. In pixel density terms, the G Flex offers a rather low 245 ppi (pixels per inch).
Since most phones are rather prone to drops and scratches, the LG G Flex introduces a new feature called Self Healing. Yes it sounds like a Sci-Fi feature and LG claims that its special coating is able to recover itself from typical daily scratches and nicks.
The LG G Flex also carries similar features from the LG G2 such as Knock on and the rear mounted key buttons with colour illumination. In terms of hardware, it packs a capable 2.26GHz Quad-Core Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. It also packs a 13MP rear camera with a 2MP front facing unit along with 4G LTE support including LTE Advance. Overall, it weighs 177 grams and has a thickness of 8.7mm.
Head after the break for its official press images.
