Nokia has finally achieved a couple of firsts today with its Lumia 1320 and Lumia 1520 that both comes with a huge 6″ display..
It’s current flagship Lumia 1520 is their first quad-core device with the top of the line 2.2GHz Snapdragon 800 processor which is found on most flagship Android smart phones. The Lumia 1520 also boast its first Full HD resolution display of 1920×1080 pixels resolution giving a pixel density of 367ppi. So how does it compare with its current Lumia 1020 and other large screen phablets? As usual, we’ve put the hardware specs and dimensions together for a full on comparison. Click on the picture above for a bigger view.
In terms of hardware, the Lumia 1520 seems to go head on with the likes of the Galaxy Note 3 and the Sony Xperia Z1 but the Galaxy Note 3 pulls ahead with a much generous 3GB of RAM. In the display department, the Lumia 1520 matches with the rest of the flagship devices with Full HD resolution but sacrifices on pixel density due to its mammoth 6″ screen size.
Looking at screen resolution and processor alone, the Lumia 1320 is set to be a direct competitor to the Galaxy Mega with similar 1.7GHz dual-core processor and a large display that does a modest 720p HD resolution. Across all devices, both new Lumia models packed a bigger 3,400mAh capacity battery, which is the highest among the models listed here. However with a larger battery, it puts on more weight resulting a heavier 209 grams and 220 grams for the Lumia 1520 and 1320 respectively.
Dimension wise, the Lumia 1520 at 8.7mm is thinner than the Lumia 1020 (10.4mm) and the recently announced HTC One Max (10.29mm), but it is still thicker than the Note 3 (8.3mm), Galaxy Mega (8.0mm) and Xperia Z1 (8.5mm).
Feature wise, the Lumia 1320 being an affordable large screen device is a notch down in the camera department with a smaller 1/4″ 5MP main shooter, VGA resolution front facing camera and it even lacks NFC. The Lumia 1520 is a notch down below its higher end Lumia 1020 shooter with a 20.7MP shooter that’s based on a smaller 1/2.5″ sensor. It is worth pointing out that the Lumia 1520 sensor is marginally smaller than the Xperia Z1’s 1/2.3″ sensor size. Another major difference is that the Lumia 1520 uses dual-LED as opposed to Xenon Flash found on the Lumia 1020. For those migrating from an iPhone 5, you’ll be happy to note that Lumia 1520 uses the smaller nano SIM.
Overall the new Nokia Lumia 1320 & Lumia 1520 has finally closed the hardware gap with its Android rivals and it is time for Windows Phone platform to attract more users to the fold. No doubt Windows Phone is gaining more tracking in terms of apps and it was also announced that several popular apps including Instagram, Flipboard, Temple Run and Vine would be made available soon for Windows Phone users.
