Just when you think Samsung has enough phones to fill every customer segment, they have just introduced 2 new phone-tablets – the Galaxy Mega 6.3 & 5.8. Similar to the current Galaxy Grand, the new Galaxy Megas offers big screen experience with mid-range hardware.

Among the 2, the Galaxy Mega 6.3 is a higher spec device with a 6.3″ TFT display that does 1280×720 pixels resolution. Powering the device is a dual-core 1.7GHz processor with 1.5GB of RAM and comes with a storage option of either 8GB or 16GB. If you need more storage, it is also expandable with microSD and it is juiced up with a large 3,200mAh battery (100mAh more than the Galaxy Note II).

For the smaller Galaxy Mega 5.8, the 5.8″ TFT display pushes a lower qHD resolution of 950×540 and it is powered with dual-core 1.4Ghz processor and also comes with 1.5GB of RAM. It comes with 8GB of storage that’s expandable with microSD. The Galaxy Mega 5.8 also has a dual-sim variant as well. In terms of battery, it is rated at 2,600mAh.

Both Galaxy Mega 6.3 and 5.8 are running on the latest Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with the usual TouchWiz enhancement such as AirView, MultiView, S Translator and Samsung WatchOn which utilises its built-in Infrared port. In terms of connectivity, the Mega 6.3 comes with 4G LTE support.

The two models both come with a similar 8MP main camera and a front facing 1.9MP camera. Dimension wise, the Galaxy Mega 6.3 is thinner at 8mm while its smaller 5.8 sibing is slightly thicker at 9mm. In terms of weigh, the Galaxy Mega 6.3 is a tad heavy at 199g while the 5.8 at 182g.

In terms of design, no surprises that it follows the same design language as the Galaxy S4. With the Note III expected to be reveal later this year, we can foresee people having a challenge to distinguish the different Galaxy models out there.

Head after the break for more product shots of the Galaxy Mega 5.8 and Mega 6.3.
