Apple today announced something that many of you have been waiting for a long time. The iTunes Store is now available in Malaysia and that means you can now download legit content from a catalogue of over 20 million songs from all the major labels and thousands of independent labels.
You can also rent or purchase movies from the iTunes Store from major studios including 20th Century Fox, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, The Walt Disney Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures.
In addition to Malaysia, the iTunes Store is also available in Brunei, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Laos, Macau, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Vietnam.
Songs start from around US$0.99 (RM3.20), albums at US$9.99 (RM31.90) which is quite reasonable. Movies are dearer costing around US$3.99 (RM12.70) and above to rent or US$14.99 (RM47.90) and above to purchase for HD version and US$2.99 (RM9.60) and above to rent and US$9.99 (RM31.90) to buy SD versions.
No doubt having iTunes Store support in Malaysia is a great deal and a major step forward for consumers in Malaysia giving us the opportunity to consume contents across multiple screens but considering that “alternatives” are abundant and cost nothing, it will be difficult to justify the masses to adopt legit content. Having said that, those who have been waiting for this to be available in Malaysia, will appreciate it but what do you think of the cost?
