When we told you that it is going to be a crazy final quarter, we weren’t joking. Just look at the number of devices that has been and will be launching in these last three months. You guys are really spoiled for choice across the board with a selection of devices from Samsung, Motorola, HTC and Sony Ericsson at various price points ranging from entry level to flagship. It sure is a good time to be a gadget junkie.
And the devices just keep on coming. Samsung has confirmed via its Facebook page that its full range of tablets will make it to Malaysia. You want the Galaxy Tab 8.9? It’s on sale in right now! Waiting for the Galaxy Tab 7 Plus? That’s coming too and according to Samsung it’s just a matter of weeks. How about the Galaxy Tab 7.7? No sweat, Samsung says that should be available before the end of the year.
Right now the full details (in final pricing and exact launch dates) of the Galaxy tab 7 Plus and the Galaxy Tab 7.7 are not available but we’re pretty sure things will start surfacing as we approach closer to launch day. Considering that both these devices can function as a phone, we’re expecting a telco tie-up to be on the cards.
In the meantime, the Galaxy Tab 8.9 is now selling for RM1,699 for the WiFi version and it brings everything you like in the Galaxy Tab 10.1 but in a more compact package.
Update: Twitter follower @najibhhh correctly pointed out that at RM1,699, the Galaxy Tab 8.9 is more expensive than the Galaxy Tab 10.1 WiFi which retails for RM1,499. Now, why would a smaller device with a smaller screen (which means it costs less) is more expensive is beyond us. Surely both the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and 8.9 offer the same level of mobility. Would you pay extra for a smaller device with exactly the same features as the Galaxy Tab 10.1?
Update 2: We’ve gotten information from @betadotmy via Twitter that the RM1,699 price for the Galaxy Tab 8.9 is for the WiFi+3G version and not the WiFi only version as we earlier thought. Samsung Malaysia confirms this here. Still, if you’re wondering, the 3G+WiFi version doesn’t do voice calls (excluding third-party apps like Skype etc). However you can send and receive SMS and MMS. What is unconfirmed is that the WiFi version of the Galaxy Tab 8.9 is also available and it retails for RM1,299. We’ll try to get more details on that.
