LG Optimus 3D priced at RM2,199. We compare it with the HTC Evo 3D

The 3D smartphones are here. Just a couple of days after the HTC Evo 3D was launched in Malaysia, we now have the price of its direct contender — the LG Optimus 3D.

IMCC now has stock available for the LG Optimus 3D and it is similarly priced to the HTC Evo 3D at RM2,199.

Comparing the two devices spec for spec, there’s really not much in it between the two. Most noticeable is processors. The LG runs a 1GHz dual-core processor with 512MB while the HTC is packing a 1.2GHz dual-core unit with 1GB of RAM. Another point worth highlighting is that the LG runs the older Android 2.2 where the Evo 3D is running on the very latest Android 2.3.4.

Also, HTC’s Sense UI is our favourite UI skin for Android. LG is not as polished and is no where near HTC in terms of UI features and sophistication.

On the other hand, when it comes to 3D and display quality, the LG Optimus 3D trumps the HTC Evo 3D’s definitively. The 3D effect on the LG is more natural and very comfortable to view. The Evo 3D on the other hand produced an over-3D effect that caused eye-strain and headaches. In terms of displays, despite the Evo 3D having higher resolution — at 540×960 pixels versus 480×800 pixels on the LG — the LG has better colour reproduction, contrast and viewing angle.

Other differences: THe Evo 3D has a larger battery — 1730mAh versus 1500mAh on the Optimus 3D. But the LG takes higher resolution 3D stills at 3MP versus the Evo 3D’s 2MP.

So the question is which one will you choose. We’ve had some time to with the two devices, 3D is the main selling point for these two smartphones and based on that, the LG Optimus 3D has an edge over the Evo 3D.
