HTC Desire S price to be below the RM2k mark?

Update: Maxis has revealed the pricing for the HTC Desire S and it looks like our below RM2k prediction is on the money.

  • RM1,799 outright
  • RM1,299 on 24 months Maxis contract
  • RM1,399 on 18 months Maxis contract
  • RM1,499 on 12 months Maxis contract

Assuming the Desire S that Malaysia is getting will run Gingerbread, we have to ask the question. What is the point of getting a Nexus S?

===

With the launch of the HTC Desire S looming, one of the most asked question will be how much is it going to cost?

Let’s try to make an educated guess shall we?

First, we know that the almost identically speced HTC Incredible S is retailing for RM1,999 and the slightly more premium albeit older Desire HD is priced at RM2,099.

We also know that the comparable Sony Ericsson Xperia arc is going for RM2,099 outright.

In addition to this, AP sets of the Desire S are starting to crop up in forums like Lowyat.NET and are going for RM1,700.

So from all this are we able to deduce how much the Desire S is going to cost?

The Desire S has the smallest screen compared to the other devices listed here but in terms of processor speed, RAM and camera (actually the Desire S has the least MP count of the lot), all these devices are very close to each other which would mean that the Desire S will very likely be priced around the RM2k mark.

Could we be more specific?

Considering that the AP Desire S is fetching RM1,700 and that the Incredible S has better optics with a 8MP camera with dual-LED flash rear camera and a 1.3MP front camera (5MP single LED flash rear camera and VGA front camera on the Desire S), and a bigger screen (4-inch compared to 3.7-inch on Desire S), we’re predicting that the Desire S to be priced below the Incredible S. So our final number is under RM2k.

Of course with all these things, we could be completely wrong. At least the wait to find out won’t be long. Keep it locked on to SoyaCincau.com this Friday to find out what the real price of the HTC Desire S will be.
