New information reveals that the iPad 2 could be a different beast altogether

This is very interesting. iLounge, one of the more prominent sources of information for iPod, iPhone and iPad reveals that a previously accurate source has provided iLounge with some very interesting information pertaining to the iPad 2.

The iPad 2 is very likely getting NFC/RFID chips for wireless communications that will allow cashless payments through the device for example. iLounge says that its source has revealed that Apple is working on a number of NFC accessories.

The iPad 2 may no be made out of aluminum. We’ve previously mentioned carbon fibre as one of the possible materials that will be use to make up the new iPad and it is looking like a high possibility as iLounge’s source reveals that Apple is experimenting on a new body material that is similar to carbon fibre. In fact Apple has already applied a patent for the use of this material in the new iPad. This material is CFRP or carbon fibre reinforced plastic, Apple is looking to use CFRP to reduce the weight of the new iPad. iLounge however cautions that CFRP may not make it to the final production version of the iPad 2.

7-inch iPad is sill a possibility. iLounge’s source is not discounting the fact that Apple is still working on a 7-inch version of the iPad saying that Apple has ordered parts for a 7-inch pad.

If any these are all true that the iPad 2 is not a simple update (along similar lines as the iPhone 3G to 3GS update) that many have predicted. Whatever it is, we’re taking all this with a pinch of salt and we’d be glad if Apple proves us wrong when they do unveil the iPad 2.
