We had some hands-on time with the Nokia N8 earlier this month and was impressed with the improvements that Nokia has introduced in the Symbian OS, the overall quality of the device and it’s imaging performance.
The 12MP camera on the Nokia N8 produces some of the best images we’ve seen captured from a mobile phone. Though we’ll need more playtime with the Nokia N8 to draw a conclusion, there’s no denying that there’s some very high-end stuff used in the Nokia N8 camera.
Chief among this is the Carl Zeiss Tessar optics that consists of five single optical elements, all of which has aspherical surfaces. To give you a picture of how complex that is in terms of lenses for mobile phones, there are typically three to four elements in a good quality lens used in a DSLR with some of the more complicated ones containing over 15 elements.
To explain more about the lens used on the Nokia N8, head boffin at Carl Zeiss, Dr. Hubert Nasse goes on video and gives you a some details the stuff that’s packed into the lens of the Nokia N8.
Head on over to after the jump to check out the video. You’ll be interested to find out that the video was shot and edited fully on a Nokia N8.
