TechCentral unboxes the Dell Streak. We can do better

The Star’s TechCentral got their hands on a Dell Streak and has just outted an unboxing video.

Aside from stating the obvious, the TechCentral geeks really didn’t say anything much about the Streak. They fail to highlight that there’s a dual LED flash next to the camera, that the back plate is made out of metal.

Upon opening the back plate the unboxer didn’t say what capacity battery the Streak comes with. The unboxer didn’t say how much on board memory the device has and whether it comes bundled with a memory card. Simply put, there’s so much you can say in an unboxing the this video has fail to highlight.

The unboxer will probably say that those details will be saved for the review, but everyone knows a good unboxing video should include these perliminary details.

And no guys, running a key up and down the screen without any or very little pressure doesn’t account for a scratch test ok.

Dell, come one, give us a unit, we can do better.

Ok, now that’s out of the way, here’s a like of things we’ve observed from TechCentral’s unboxing.

  • The box is butt ugly. One of the, if not the ugliest device boxes we’ve seen. We’d prefer a untreated box (brown colour, recycle material look) with a single dell logo in black on top. That would look so classy. Simple and nice.
  • The device itself looks very very good.
  • The review unit runs on Android 1.6. The biggest flaw of what is potentially a very capable device. We’re crossing our fingers and toes hopping that the in store units will be running Android 2.1 instead. But even on the older Android the Streak looked snappy in the video
  • Most important of all, it is revealed that the Streak will be available in November. This is completed the opposite to the Reuters report saying that the Dell Streak will come to APAC in 2011.

We wonder who’s is bluffing.
