When it comes to doing things differently, you can take your hats off to the Japanese.

During iPhone 4 launch day, we’re sure you’ve seen all the pictures and reports of lines going around the block in front of the many Apple stores in five countries getting the first wave of iPhone 4 shipments.

Japan was one of the five countries getting the iPhone 4. At first glance, you’ll see the same long lines as you did in the US and and in the UK, but it’s slightly different. One dude brought a portable generator along with him so that his gadgets will never run out of juice while he’s waiting in line. Genius!

We wonder if there will be long lines here in Malaysia when Maxis eventually make the announcement that the iPhone 4 pre-orders are open.

If there is, you’ll be sure we’ll be at the front line to give you all the latest.

In the meantime, enjoy this video report of the Japanese guy standing in line with his portable generator after the jump.
