Engadget has gotten a tip off that HTC has announced the availability of Android 2.1 upgrade for HTC Hero. This is great news but it appears to be only available for Taiwan. The Taiwan site of HTC’s support page explains that the upgrade will come to HTC Hero Users as an Over The Air download notification. This is not found on the South East Asia version.
Users are advised to use either WiFi or unlimited 3G data plan to download the upgrade. You can view the English translation here.
On the HTC Legend, both Taiwan & SEA site has announced that a firmware upgrade is underway. They didn’t mention Android 2.2 (Froyo) but it might be the upgraded version of Android 2.1 as seen on the HTC Desire below.
The HTC Legend upgrade updates the firmware to 1.31.707.3. To check your current firmware version, go to MENU> Settings> About Phone> Software information> Software number.
During the HTC Desire launch, it was also announced that Hero Android 2.1 will be made available in Malaysia so we believe it is just a matter of time before the upgrade reach us. For HTC Legend’s upgrade to Android 2.2, we don’t expect it anytime soon considering its flagship Desire & EVO 4G is still running on 2.1.
