The legendary Nokia 3210 is now 25 years old and HMD has given it a new reboot for 2024. Contrary to the brand’s original slogan of “Connecting People”, the 2024 reboot focuses on disconnecting people from their screens.
The popular dumbphone rebooted with 4G connectivity
Similar to other rebooted classics like the Nokia 3310, 8210 and 2720 Flip, the new Nokia 3210 is essentially basic feature phones which offers 4G connectivity. It gets a 2.4″ QVGA colour display and physical numeric pad for you to navigate around its S30+ operating system. The rebooted 3210 runs on a Unisoc T107 chip with 64MB of RAM (Yes, MB. This is not a typo) and 128MB of internal storage. If you need more storage to store your photos and mp3 files, it still accepts microSD cards of up to 32GB.
The Nokia 3210 has a single 2MP camera at the rear with LED flash and it supports 4G connectivity along with Bluetooth 5.0. Despite being a “dumbphone”, it has a USB-C charging port, a 3.5mm headphone jack as well as support for FM Radio.
In case you’re wondering, yes, the Nokia 3210 does come with the popular Snake game and you can access some smart features such as news, weather, videos and games via its Cloud Apps.
Powering the device is a 1,450mAh battery which is removable, and it boasts up to 9.8 hours of talk time.
HMD: The Nokia 3210 is for people who want to disconnect
According to HMD, the Nokia 3210 is a mobile phone that defined a generation and it is back after 25 years. It claims that “Dumbphones” are making a comeback as people look to return to simpler times. It added that HMD saw the sales of its Nokia 2660 Flip doubled in 2023 and it expects further feature phone market growth in 2024.
HMD’s CMO Lars Silberbauer said, “The Nokia 3210, a cultural icon, is back at the pinnacle of global dumbphone boom as consumers look to balance their screen time usage with a digital detox. The Nokia 3210 has simplicity at its core, allowing consumers to be totally present. Forget dumbphone, this is 2024’s fun phone.”
HMD says the new Nokia 3210 feeds into the increasing popularity and continued resurgence of feature phones as more youths are switching off and embracing the digital detox movement. It is a phone for people wanting to take a break from social media, the internet and endless apps, and enjoy life as it was in the late 90s or early 2000s.
Who wants to carry another feature phone?
The Nokia 3210 is already listed on the Malaysian website but there are no pricing and availability details at the moment. It comes in 3 colours – Scuba Blue, Grunge Black and Y2K Gold. As a reference, the Nokia 8210 4G with 48MB RAM and 128MB storage is currently priced at RM299.
HMD continues to sell phones based on nostalgia and these devices will always continue to create conversations online. The question is, would you consider getting one? As smartphones have become necessary for communications (Instant messaging) and payments (eWallet, online banking), is there a space for a dumbphone in your life? Let us know in the comments below.
