Xiaomi isn’t giving up on tablets yet and they have just revealed its new Mi Pad 3. Despite getting a new model number, the Mi Pad 3 looks pretty much the same as the current Mi Pad 2 that was announced back in 2015.

The exterior dimensions are exactly the same and the Mi Pad 3 retains an “iPad-mini”-ish 7.9″ display that does 2048 x 1536 pixels resolution. Instead of an Intel Atom X5-Z8500 processor, the Mi Pad 3 runs on MediaTek’s Hexa-Core MT8176 processor accompanied with an IMG PowerVR GX6250 GPU. It now comes with 4GB of RAM and a single storage option of 64GB onboard which unfortunately isn’t expandable.

In terms of camera, the rear shooter is now upgraded to a 13MP f/2.2 unit that supports full HD videos while the front retains a 5MP f/2.0 shooter. The battery is slightly bigger at 6,600mAh and it charges via a standard 5V/2A brick. Like its previous models, the Mi Pad is available in a single WiFi only variant and there’s no support for 4G LTE connectivity. Unlike the Mi Pad 2, there won’t be a Windows 10 version and it only runs on Android with Xiaomi’s MIUI 8 skin on top.

The Mi Pad 3 is priced at 1,499CNY (about RM964) and it is only available in gold colour. So far it is only released for China and there’s no word on it being released globally.
