From the event poster above, Samsung Pay will finally accept both Mastercard and Visa cards issued by CIMB, Citi, Maybank and Standard Chartered. Unlike other mobile payment systems, Samsung Pay uses both NFC and MST technology which allows it to be compatible with more card terminals include those without NFC/PayWave.

For better security, Samsung Pay uses both fingerprint or PIN authentication before a transaction can be made. There’s also digital tokenisation for added security and it also conceals your actual card number from the merchant. According to Samsung Malaysia, the service is compatible with the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, Galaxy Note5, Galaxy S6 edge+ and Galaxy A Series (Both 2016 and 2017 models).

The Malaysian launch is happening next Friday, 24 February 2017 at KLCC Centre Court. This will be a 4-day roadshow where they are giving away a phone and wireless chargers. If you’re a highest Samsung Pay spender, you can stand a chance to win a Galaxy S7 edge. There are also 100 Galaxy Wireless Chargers (worth RM279) to be given out for those who make a minimum of 3X RM30 Samsung Pay transactions.
