For those that demand flagship specs for half the price, Meizu has just announced its new MX6 smartphone in Beijing. Essentially this is a budget friendly version of the Meizu Pro 6 but it gets a larger 5.5″ screen.

Instead of MediaTek’s top of the lin Helio X25 chipset, the MX6 gets a Helio X20 unit that also comes with 10-cores (2x [email protected], [email protected], [email protected]). There’s 4GB of RAM and 32GB of on-board storage. Over at the front, it gets a 5.5″ Full HD display and a front facing 5MP f/2.0 camera. There’s also an mTouch 2.1 fingerprint scanner upfront that unlocks instantly in 0.2 seconds.

For taking photos, the MX6 gets a 12MP main shooter instead of a 21MP unit on the Meizu Pro 6. Despite its smaller pixel count, it boasts larger 1.25 micron pixel size with a Sony IMX386 sensor. It is also assisted with PDAF and dual-tone LED flash lights . In terms of connectivity, the MX6 supports dual-SIMs with both TDD and FDD LTE bands plus VoLTE for clearer calls.

Keeping the lights on is a 3,060mAh battery and it charges via USB Type-C. There’s also mCharge fast charging that delivers a full charge in 75 minutes with a 12V 2A power brick. Out of the box, the MX6 runs on Android Marshmallow with the latest FlymeOS skin on top.

The MX6 with 4GB RAM and 32GB storage is going for 1,999 CNY which is about RM1,205 when converted directly. There are 4 colours being offered – Gold, Silver, Grey and Pink. Sales for the MX6 will commence on 30 July in China but there’s no indication of when Meizu will offer the device here in Malaysia.
