The Chinese smart phones may be affordable but they still lag behind the mainstream brands when it comes to software updates. Interestingly Meizu isn’t resting on their laurels and they are about to push a new FlymeOS version that’s based on the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop. Owners of their current MX4 and MX4 Pro are said to be able to try out their open-beta release of their new OS sometime in March next month.

While this sounds like good news for those wanting the latest Android version, do note that FlymeOS would be heavily modified from the usual UI that you’re familiar with. Far from the usual stock experience, the FlymeOS interface is very simplified, almost similar to iOS and it uses a number of gesture actions for its vital functions. Physically it gets a capacitive home button and there’s also a dynamic on-screen buttons to navigate around. It is said that the Lollipop based FlymeOS will be developed side by side for the MX4 and MX4 Pro, and the final version should be released simultaneously for both models.
