U Mobile has announced that its ULTRA5G network now covers 90% of populated areas nationwide, achieving its July 2027 rollout target more than nine months ahead of schedule. As a result, it claims to be Malaysia’s widest 5G network.

The milestone comes after U Mobile surpassed 80% 5G Coverage of Populated Areas (CoPA) in March 2026, less than nine months after it began rolling out its own 5G network. In April 2026, it achieved 82.9% 5G population coverage with 6,737 5G sites.

The orange telco announced that it had exceeded 85% 5G population coverage in July after its exit from Digital Nasional Berhad.

U Mobile began rolling out its ULTRA5G network in July 2025 with two nationwide coverage commitments. It aimed to achieve 80% CoPA within its first 12 months of deployment, followed by 90% CoPA by July 2027.

It surpassed the first target in March 2026, more than three months ahead of its July 2026 deadline. U Mobile has now reached the 90% milestone more than nine months ahead of its second deadline.

As a comparison, Digital Nasional Berhad’s network is currently at 82.4% 5G population coverage as of end September 2026.

With this, U Mobile says it has fulfilled the nationwide coverage commitments underpinning its role under Malaysia’s Dual 5G Network model.

U Mobile CEO Wong Heang Tuck said, “Achieving 90% nationwide 5G coverage more than nine months ahead of schedule reflects the determination of the entire U Mobile team and the strong collaboration of our government, regulatory, technology and infrastructure partners. We made a commitment to build a nationwide 5G network at speed and scale, and today, we are proud to have delivered on that promise ahead of schedule.”

He added, “This milestone is more than just about reaching a coverage target. It is about bringing quality digital connectivity closer to more Malaysians and creating a stronger foundation for how people learn, work, communicate and access opportunities. With the nationwide network foundation now in place, our focus is to continue strengthening the ULTRA5G experience and helping businesses, communities and public services translate connectivity into meaningful value.”

U Mobile says it has surpassed 250 indoor 5G sites

U Mobile has deployed over 250 in-building 5G sites nationwide

Besides expanding its outdoor footprint, U Mobile says it has surpassed 250 in-building coverage sites nationwide.

Starting from its home ground at Berjaya Times Square back in August 2025, U Mobile had set a goal to cover 175 buildings with in-building coverage within a year and to cover 600 buildings within four years. Based on the current progress, the orange telco is almost half-way in achieving its indoor coverage targets ahead of schedule.

According to the telco, it has already fulfilled its first-year commitment for 5G in-building coverage and will continue expanding its indoor network footprint.

U Mobile also says it plans to continue developing initiatives involving 5G-Advanced and AI-enabled solutions.

On network performance, U Mobile was named Malaysia’s Best Mobile Network and Fastest 5G Network by Ookla in 2026. Opensignal has also recognised improvements to U Mobile’s reliability, network quality, speed and 5G experience. The findings were based on data collected up to end June 2026.
