Disney+ Malaysia has officially announced that a brand new application will be introduced for local subscribers starting 7 October 2026.

This platform overhaul aims to migrate Malaysian users to an updated viewing experience while bringing account management directly under the global MyDisney framework.

The move comes as the streaming service continues to refine its local offerings following recent tier updates and price revisions, where the Basic plan is priced at RM29.90 monthly (RM214.90 annually) and the Premium tier sits at RM49.90 monthly (RM289.90 annually).

What Should Customers Do?

According to Disney’s official support guidelines, subscribers do not need to download anything or take action immediately. Disney has stated that it will send out reminders to users before any mandatory action is required.

Starting 7 October 2026, subscribers will be guided to access the new app experience and can log in seamlessly using their existing registered phone number or email address.

The Good News: No Extra Costs, Same Subscription Perks

Existing direct subscribers will be transitioned to the new app experience automatically at no additional cost, with their existing billing cycles remaining entirely unchanged. Users will be able to log in using their registered MyDisney email address or phone number seamlessly.

Under the updated platform setup, Basic plan subscribers will be moved to the equivalent Disney+ Standard plan, which supports up to 1080p resolution, two simultaneous streams, and offline downloads. Meanwhile, Premium tier subscribers will retain their current feature set, including 4K UHD resolution and up to four simultaneous streams.

For users who access Disney+ via local partner bundles such as Astro, Unifi TV, or CelcomDigi, there may be slight variations in app availability dates and plan configurations based on individual provider terms.

Important Binge-Watch Alert: Take Note of Your Episodes!

A critical change coming with this migration is that existing user profiles, custom Watchlists, and viewing histories will not be transferred to the new application.

If you are currently in the middle of a binge-watch, whether you are tracking episode numbers for the latest K-drama hit like Made in Korea Season 2 or counting down to upcoming Marvel releases like VisionQuest be sure to take a manual note of where you left off. Account holders will be required to build a fresh primary profile from scratch upon logging into the updated platform for the first time.

Additionally, subscribers who have not previously linked a valid email address to their mobile phone number will be prompted to supply one during the initial setup process to secure their MyDisney login and ensure uninterrupted streaming access.
