Malaysia’s sports technology sector has achieved a significant milestone as Reveal Lens, a homegrown AI-powered Instant Review System (IRS) for badminton made its official international debut at the Antica Singapore International Challenge 2026.
Developed by local sports tech firm Revealtek Sdn Bhd, the technology was deployed throughout the six-day tournament held from 18 to 23 August 2026 to handle disputed line calls.
This marks the first time the system has been utilised on an international court outside of Malaysia.
Local track record before stepping onto the global stage
Before making its international debut in Singapore, Revealtek built an extensive operational track record across domestic Malaysian competitions:
The system made its official live operational debut at the Selangor IJM Junior Closed (1st Leg) 2025. It was later deployed in Selangor earlier in April 2026 at the AFFIN 100PLUS Junior Elite Tour (2nd Leg) Group B to review contested calls for junior players.
From April 22 to 27, 2026, Revealtek expanded nationwide deployment at the state level by providing review tools at the PETRONAS National Under-18 Championships 2026 in Selangor. Most recently, in June 2026, the technology was integrated across courts in Kuala Lumpur to handle line-call challenges during the AFFIN 100PLUS JET Finals 2026.
System overview and how Reveal Lens operate
Similar to VAR in football or in tennis, Reveal Lens brings automated decision support to badminton to review disputed line calls.
The hardware setup uses 12 synchronised high-speed cameras positioned around the court to capture video at 240 frames per second. When a player challenges a call, the system’s computer vision algorithms track the shuttlecock’s trajectory and calculate its precise landing point.
The review decision is processed in seconds and displayed on stadium screens via Reveal Score and Reveal Stream for umpires, players, and spectators.
According to Revealtek chief executive officer Nizam Mohamed, the system features a wireless configuration designed to be installed and calibrated in approximately two hours. Traditional international review setups often require fixed infrastructure costing around USD 100,000 (~RM404,700) per event. Reveal Lens was developed to lower equipment costs, allowing smaller tournaments, state bodies, and national associations to implement instant review capabilities.
BWF approval and regional expansion plans
Reveal Lens is currently one of five Instant Review Systems globally approved by the Badminton World Federation (BWF).
Following the tournament in Singapore, organisers and national associations in Vietnam and Indonesia expressed interest in utilising the system. Revealtek is also in ongoing discussions with continental badminton confederations regarding potential adoption as an endorsed officiating tool for member associations.
Fully automated line-calling demo set for Australia
Looking ahead, Revealtek is expanding its product roadmap beyond challenge-based instant reviews.
The company is currently developing an analytics module for performance analysis alongside a fully functioning autonomous line-calling system capable of performing the core duties of human line judges during matches. Revealtek plans to conduct a live demonstration of this automated line-calling technology at an upcoming tournament in Australia this October.
