Jaecoo J5 EV has made its first official appearance in Malaysia, allowing the public to have a hands-on experience with the new electric SUV ahead of its local launch later this year. It is the first fully electric offering from the Omoda Jaecoo brand for Malaysia.
In case you are confused by that statement, as the Omoda E5 made its way to Malaysia in March 2024, that model is under the purview of the Chery brand. When the Omoda brand was transferred to Jaecoo to be merged into a single brand house in mid-2025, the Omoda E5 was not included in the transfer.
@soyacincautiktok Watch out BYD & Proton, there’s a new EV in town! Jaecoo J5 EV has officially landed in Malaysia for its very first public preview! Positioned right in the sweet spot, this electric SUV bridges the gap perfectly—giving you more size and presence than the BYD Atto 2, while staying more compact and city-friendly than the Proton e.MAS 7. It’s packing a solid 402km WLTP range and premium features that have already made it a massive sales hit across neighboring Southeast Asian markets. Now that it’s confirmed to be locally assembled (CKD) right from launch, it’s ready to shake up the local EV scene. Could this be your next electric ride? @OMODA JAECOO Malaysia #JaecooJ5EV #omodajaecoomalaysia

Positioned between two mainstream EV segments

If you look at the Jaecoo J5 EV’s dimensions, you would notice something interesting. The SUV is bigger than sub-compact SUVs such as the BYD Atto 2 while at the same time, it is still more compact than crossover SUVs like the Proton e.MAS 7.

Numerous premium features packed in one package

Despite its positioning as a mainstream offering, the J5 EV includes numerous comfort and convenience features that are typically found on higher-priced vehicles. It is uncommon for vehicles in this class to offer these features as standard equipment in a single package.
Key highlights for the Malaysian market include:
- Motorised charging port cover
- Large panoramic glass roof with an adjustable, motorised sunshade
- Double-glazed front side windows
- Power tailgate
- Dual-zone climate control
- Frunk
The vehicle’s charging hardware is highly competitive for its segment. The Malaysian variant features an 11kW 3-phase AC onboard charger, a specification that remains relatively rare among entry-to-mid tier electric vehicles locally.
For fast charging, it supports up to 130kW DC charging. This capability allows J5 EV’s battery to be replenished from 30% to 80% in approximately 28 minutes.
J5 EV performance, battery, range, and other features

Featuring a front-wheel drive (FWD) configuration, J5 EV comes with a 155kW (208hp) electric motor that also produces 288Nm of torque. For the Malaysian market, the vehicle is equipped with a 58.9 kWh CATL LFP battery pack, which yields a WLTP-rated driving range of 402 km on a full charge.
Other notable features on the J5 EV include pet-friendly synthetic leather upholstery, dedicated modes for pet and camping, ventilated front seats with electronic controls, an 8.88-inch fixed-segment digital instrument cluster, 13.2-inch infotainment screen, and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality.

The electric SUV also comes with an active grille shutter, level 2+ Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), a 540-degree camera system, a rear multi-link suspension setup, and 18-inch aero wheels with Giti GitiControl P10 235/55 tyres.
How much will the J5 EV cost in Malaysia?

So now, here’s the age-old golden question: what is the price tag of Jaecoo J5 EV?
Given its positioning as per what we discussed earlier, the J5 EV will most probably be priced very competitively at a level that can give BYD and Proton a run for their money. With the EV being locally assembled in Malaysia right from the get-go, at the very least Omoda Jaecoo don’t have to endure the headache that is MITI’s new CBU EV policy.

In case you are wondering, the petrol version of J5, which was released in Malaysia back in March, is currently priced at RM108,000, although you can easily get it for under RM100,000 through promotional rebates.
J5 EV has been making waves in the region as the electric SUV is currently one of the best-selling EVs in Indonesia and Thailand. It goes without saying that pricing will likely become one of the main factors that determine whether Omoda Jaecoo is able to repeat that feat in Malaysia.
