This post is brought to you by vivo.

Following the recent Malaysian debut of the vivo V70, vivo has used its platform as a strategic partner at the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) Annual Conference 2026 to outline a fundamental shift in mobile technology. The company is moving toward a future defined by Agent phones, devices that transcend communication to become digital companions with the ability to perceive, reason, and act.

Bringing the Global Vision to Malaysia

For local consumers, this global strategy is already being implemented. The vivo V70, which launched in Malaysia on 5 March 2026, is described as a direct expression of vivo’s international ambitions. The device aims to bridge the gap between mid-range and flagship hardware by integrating seven core capabilities:

  • Imaging Hardware: A 50 MP ZEISS Super Telephoto Camera featuring the Sony IMX882 sensor and 20x zoom.
  • AI Scene Photography: Specialised software modes including Stage Mode and Magic Weather.
  • Build & Security: An aerospace-grade aluminium alloy frame and 3D Ultrasonic Fingerprint Scanning 2.0.
  • Performance Architecture: OriginOS 6 running on LPDDR5X memory with UFS 4.1 storage.
  • Longevity: A commitment to 6 years of security updates.

The Rise of the Perception System

During a keynote titled A Visual Dialogue with Physical Reality, Hu Baishan, President and COO of vivo, argued that smartphones will remain the dominant medium for human-computer interaction for the next decade. However, their role is evolving from a tool into a sensory hub.

As AI transitions from digital omniscience to physical omnipotence, vivo views imaging as the eyes through which AI navigates and understands the real world. This framework, the Blue Technology Matrix, positions the smartphone as a personal digital companion that bridges AI with daily physical experiences.

Modular Innovation: MR and Robotics

vivo is not limiting this [Imaging + AI] foundational capability to phones. The roadmap includes three core product categories:

  • Smartphones: The primary interface for users.
  • Headsets: Integrating Mixed Reality (MR) for immersive interaction.
  • Robotics: Empowering humanoid robots through R&D at the vivo Robot Lab.

At the forum, Shao Hao, Head of the vivo Robot Lab, shared progress on humanoid robotics, while Zhang Fei, VP of Technology, presented on how imaging and intelligent software are currently empowering industrial upgrades.

A Global Showcase

To demonstrate these advancements, vivo presented the X300 Ultra, its latest imaging flagship, as the official smartphone for the 2026 forum. This marks vivo’s fifth consecutive year as a strategic BFA partner and a member of its Board of Directors.

For the Malaysian market, the takeaway is clear: the transition from a standard smartphone to an Agent phone is already underway, with the current V70 serving as the first step in a broader ecosystem shift.
