Volvo EX60 boasts 810km range, Johor to Perlis on a single charge?

Volvo Car Malaysia has started teasing its upcoming EV, the EX60. While it sits below the flagship EX90, the new SUV boasts best-in-class WLTP-rated range of up to 810km in an all-wheel drive (AWD) configuration.

According to Volvo, the EX60 would have your back whether you’re travelling from Johor to Perlis or Sabah to Sarawak. This would be the longest range EV that Volvo Cars has ever created. It is aimed at turning range anxiety into range comfort and to demonstrate that going fully electric is no longer a compromise.

The Volvo EX60 will make its official global debut on 22nd January 2026 at 1am Malaysian time. You can watch the live stream online via Volvo Cars official YouTube channel.

Besides boasting the longest electric range of any fully electric Volvo, it also charges faster than any electric Volvo before in all weather conditions.

Utilising an 800V architecture, it boasts blazing fast DC charging capable of adding up to 340km of range in just 10 minutes when plugged to a 400kW DC charger. With faster speeds, a quick coffee stop is all you need to recharge the battery and continue on with your journey.

For even greater peace of mind, all Volvo EX60 customers will get a 10-year warranty for the battery.

The Volvo EX60 is built on the SPA3 architecture which is shared with the Polestar 7. The platform is Volvo’s most advanced electric car architecture to date and is designed to unlock maximum efficiency to achieve an electric range that matches cars powered by petrol engines.

By integrating the battery directly into the structure of the car with cell-to-body technology and developing e-motors in-house, it makes the EX60 more energy efficient and cuts excessive weight. It says the new cell design of the EX60 battery carefully balances energy density and power delivery, which further increases the driving range.

In terms of battery capacity, it is purported that the EX60 gets a 106kWh unit which is slightly smaller than the EX90’s 111kWh capacity.

The EX60 is also Volvo’s first car to be built with mega casting, where hundreds of smaller parts are replaced with a single, high-precision casting in the production process. The production approach reduces weight which contributes to improved range, allowing EX60 drivers to go further.

For further energy optimisation, the algorithms developed by Volvo Cars’ portfolio company, Breathe Battery Technologies, have also been incorporated in the EX60. This allows the electric SUV to constantly adjust how the battery takes power, keeping it at the optimal operating zone at all times and in all weather conditions.

Volvo emphasises that the EX60 is a no-compromises electric car, designed to provide the freedom to move in a new, all-electric era.

Also teased earlier, Volvo is also reinventing the 3 point seat belt with the world’s first multi-adaptive safety belt, which will make its debut on the EX60. Utilising real-time sensor data from both inside and outside the vehicle, the new smart multi-adaptive safety belt will select one of eleven load-limiting profiles to ensure the right amount of restraint based on the level of impact.

The seat belt technology gets better over time through OTA software update and Volvo can continue to refine the system as it learns from more crash data.
