The BUDI Madani RON95 (BUDI95) initiative is kicking off starting this weekend for the police/military (27 September) and B40 income groups (28 September). It will be open to all eligible Malaysians starting 30 September 2025.
To find out if you’re eligible to enjoy cheaper RM1.99/L subsidised price for RON95 petrol, you can now check online via the BUDI95 portal at budi95.gov.my.
There’s no registration required. All you’ll need is to enter your MyKad (IC) number and it will indicate if you’re eligible to enjoy BUDI95.
Each eligible Malaysian is given a monthly BUDI95 quota of 300L, which MOF says is sufficient for 99% of Malaysian drivers. If your petrol vehicle has an efficiency of 10L per 100km, that’s enough to travel 3,000km per month, which is 100km per day.
If you’ve exceeded your 300L quota, you can continue to purchase RON95 quota without subsidy.
Alternatively, you can also use Setel where you can check your eligibility and remaining quota by tapping on the BUDI95 icon. You are also given the option to turn off and turn on the subsidy.
Who is eligible for BUDI95?
BUDI95 which offers RM1.99/L RON95 petrol is offered to ALL Malaysians regardless of income level with a MyKad and a valid driver’s licence.
The type of active driving licence includes Competent Driving Licence (CDL), Probationary Driving Licence (PDL) and Learner Driving Licence (LDL).
As revealed by Transport Minister Anthony Loke, 2.4 million licences have been expired for more than 3 years and they will not be eligible for the BUDI95 subsidy. Legally, these holders are required to re-sit their practical driving test.
Only holders of active licences including those expired for less than 3 years are eligible for the BUDI95 subsidy. The minister revealed that 925,421 licences have expired for less than 3 years.
Take note that foreign vehicles are not allowed to purchase RON95 petrol (subsidised or not) as they are only permitted to pump RON97 petrol.
However, foreigners driving Malaysian-registered vehicles are allowed to purchase RON95 petrol but without the subsidy.
What should you do if you’re not eligible?
What if you’re a Malaysian but the status is showing that you’re not eligible? According to the FAQ, there could be four reasons.
If it is due to your driving licence records, you’ll need to update the details at the Road Transport Department (JPJ) .
If the MyKad number is not found, you’ll need to visit the nearest National Registration Department (JPN) counter to check and update your records.
Individuals not eligible for BUDI95 are still able to purchase RON95 without subsidy which is expected to be RM2.60/L, depended on the current float pricing.
