Powerbee will be opening an electric vehicle charging hub in Penang later this year. Once operational, the hub can cater to up to 14 EVs at a time.

For those who are not familiar with the name, Powerbee is the subsidiary of the local renewable energy company Solarvest that focuses on EV charging infrastructure. The Charge Point Operator (CPO) has recently deployed an AC charger in Teluk Intan which is the first public EV charger in the town.

Powerbee DVOM hub is the CPO’s largest project to date

Located at Design Village Outlet Mall (DVOM) in Batu Kawan, it will become Powerbee’s first EV charging hub. While there are already quite a number of EV chargers in Batu Kawan at the moment, Powerbee’s deployment is set to become the largest rollout of EV chargers in the area.

At the same time, the hub will also feature a 120kW DC charger which will become the fastest EV charger in Batu Kawan. The DC charger will be able to support up to two EVs simultaneously while the remaining 12 charging bays will be equipped with a 22kW AC charger each.

In terms of rollout timeline, Powerbee expected that charger installation to be completed by this May. Ultimately, the CPO aims to open the new hub at DVOM to the public within August or September depending on approvals from related authorities.

While Powerbee might be relatively new in the scene, it has been involved in several interesting projects for the past few years. Aside from the newly operational charger in Teluk Intan, the CPO was responsible for deploying chargers to BMW customers who were eligible for the free Solarvest home solar system program by Lee Motors Auto Care back in 2023.
