Oppo Find N5 First Look: The perfect ultra-slim foldable smartphone?

The Oppo Find N5 is set to launch globally next week on 20th February 2025. Ahead of its launch event, here’s a quick look at what appears to be the slimmest foldable smartphone yet in a very ideal form factor.

The Oppo Find N5 is crazy thin and it is probably the size for those who want to jump on the foldable smartphone bandwagon while retaining a similar size and weight of a typical candy bar flagship smartphone.

Similar to its predecessors such as the Find N3 and the Find N2, the outer display of the Find N5 still offers the ideal aspect ratio that offers a more natural phone-like experience when folded.

Meanwhile the inner screen seems to be slightly bigger and the crease is also slightly less noticeable than the previous model.

At 8.93mm thin when folded, it is barely thicker than most mainstream candy bar flagship smartphones. Here’s how it compares with other foldable smartphones:

  • Oppo Find N5 – 8.93mm (folded)
  • Honor Magic V3 – 9.2mm (folded)
  • Huawei Mate X6 – 9.9mm (folded)
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 – 12.2mm (folded)
  • Huawei Mate XT – 12.8mm (folded)

Obviously, it isn’t as thin as the Huawei Mate XT at 3.6mm (at the thinnest point) when unfolded. Some may argue that folded thickness matters more as the device would be folded most of the time in your pocket.

The Oppo Find N5 is so thin, there’s barely enough space to fit a USB-C charging port.

As revealed by Oppo’s Chief Product Officer, Pete Lau, the ultra-thin design is made possible by the Titanium Flexion Hinge, which is said to be 26% thinner than its predecessor and 2.2x stronger. In our hands, the hinge mechanism feels really smooth and you can flex it easily in any angle.

Pete has also confirmed that the Oppo Find N5 is also certified for IPX6, IPX8 and IPX9. This makes it probably the first foldable smartphone with IPX9 rating, which means it has been tested to withstand high pressure water jets.

Prior to this, the Find N5 has been speculated to be the first smartphone to run on a 7-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite. Despite having a ultra-thin form factor, it is also said to come with 50W fast wireless charging support.

The new Oppo foldable will be offered in black and white. The black version comes with a nice matte finishing for the edges while the white version gets a shinny polished metal frame.

The Oppo Find N5 global launch event is taking place in Singapore on 20th February 2025 at 8pm. Stay tuned for the full hardware details including Malaysian pricing.
