Shortly after introducing the M4-powered iMac, Apple also unveiled its newest Mac Mini for 2024, powered by Apple’s M4 and M4 Pro chips. Besides giving the smallest Mac computer a well-deserving hardware upgrade, Apple has made the Mac Mini even smaller and it maintains the same starting price of RM2,499 as its M2-powered predecessor.
On top of that, Apple calls the new Mac Mini their first carbon-neutral Mac ever, and it marks a significant milestone towards the company’s goal of having its products and supply chain 100% carbon-neutral by 2030.

What’s new with the Mac Mini 2024?
The first major difference is the size as Apple has shrunk the Mac Mini with a compact footprint that measures 5-inch x 5-inch (12.7cm x 12.7cm). However, it is slightly thicker at 5.0cm, versus 3.58cm of its predecessor.
The 2024 model is also significantly lighter with the M4 weighing just 0.67kg while the M4 Pro weighs 0.73kg. As a reference, the previous M2-powered Mac Mini weighs 1.18kg and the M2-Pro version weighs 1.28kg.
The new Mac Mini still offers a generous amount of ports with two USB-C ports and a 3.5mm headphone jack upfront, while the rear gets 3x Thunderbolt, HDMI and Ethernet ports. The M4 versions support Thunderbolt 4 while the M4 Pro supports faster Thunderbolt 5 that boasts data transfer speeds of up to 120Gb/s.
In terms of displays, the Mac Mini M4 can support up to two 6K displays and up to one 5K display. Meanwhile, the more powerful M4 Pro can support up to three 6K displays at 60Hz.
To keep things cool in a compact design, Apple has implemented a thermal architecture which guides air through different levels within the system and the venting is done through the base of the Mac Mini. As shown above, the power button of the Mac Mini 2024 has been shifted from the rear to the base of the device.
In terms of wireless connectivity, it supports WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. For LAN, it comes with Gigabit Ethernet by default but there’s the option to upgrade it to a faster 10Gb Ethernet Port. Out of the box, it comes with a power cable and you’ll have to connect your existing monitor, keyboard and mouse, or purchase them separately.
Being an M4-powered Mac Mini, the new computer supports Apple Intelligence and it runs on macOS Sequoia 15.1.
If you want a Mac with the latest Apple Silicon chip, this is currently the most affordable option.
