[ UPDATE 16/08/2024 12:00 ] Google has updated the page again, Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL for Malaysia are using OLED LTPO panels.

===

There was some confusion about the display used on the Google Pixel 9 Pro for Malaysia. According to the Pixel support page, the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL for Malaysia, Singapore and India were initially listed with an Actua Display instead of a Super Actual Display.

We reached out to Google about the discrepancy and they have finally responded.

According to a Google representative, there was an error on the Google Pixel Help Centre and it has been fixed. Upon inspection, the Pixel 9 Pro’s display name for the Malaysian market has been revised to Super Actua display. The other contents in the table remain unchanged and the Pixel 9 Pro series is still listed with up to 2,000 nits for HDR and up to 3000 nits for peak brightness.

Most importantly, the device for Malaysia has LTPO which offers a variable refresh rate between 1 to 120Hz. This offers greater power efficiency especially if you enable an always-on display to show the time and notifications even when the device is sleeping.

Updated tech specs on Google Pixel Help pages. IN, SG, MY Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL units are using Super Actua display with LTPO

As a comparison, the cheaper Pixel 9 uses a standard Actua Display with a variable refresh rate of 60Hz-120Hz, and the screen isn’t as bright with up to 1800 nits for HDR and up to 2700nits for peak brightness.

So if you’ve pre-ordered the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL in Malaysia, you can now be assured that you’re getting the real deal for the 120Hz display.

To recap, pre-orders are now open for the Google Pixel 9 and the Pixel 9 Pro XL in Malaysia and retailers are offering free double storage upgrades. Price starts from RM3,999 for the Pixel 9 and RM5,699 for the Pixel 9 Pro XL. The two flagship smartphones will be available in-store from 22nd August 2024. The Pixel 9 Pro with a smaller 6.3″ screen is priced from RM5,199 and it will only go on sale sometime in September.

The Google Pixel devices are officially available via CelcomDigi, Maxis, Urban Republic, Senheng/SenQ, Lazada and Shopee. The Pixel 9 smartphones come with a one-year warranty and Google is also offering 7 years of software updates.
