If you’re heading to Kota Bharu, Kelantan with an EV, you’ll be happy to know that Gentari’s EV chargers at Hotel Perdana have switched from time-based to kWh-based pricing. This makes EV charging slightly cheaper for vehicles with lower supported charging speeds.
New pricing for Hotel Perdana EV Chargers
The Perdana Hotel EV charging location has four EV charging points. There are two AC charge points (11kW and 22kW) and a 60kW DC charger with two CCS2 nozzles. As listed on the JomCharge app, the AC charge points are priced at RM0.90 per kWh, while the DC chargers are priced at RM1.50 per kWh. You can activate the chargers via Setel and JomCharge.
Previously, the AC charge points were priced at RM0.15 per minute (RM9 per hour) which is quite pricey for EVs with single-phase onboard chargers. Meanwhile, the DC chargers were previously priced at RM1.40 per minute (RM42 for 30 minutes or RM84 for 60 minutes).
With the new kWh-based pricing, EV owners will be charged fairly depending on how much electricity they consume rather than the time spent at the charger. For example, if an EV could only get 6kWh worth of charge in an hour from the AC charge point, the one-hour charging session will cost about RM5.40 instead of RM9. However, owners of EVs that can get about 20kWh in an hour (e.g. Smart #1, Renault Zoe, Mercedes EQE SUV, etc.), would have to pay about RM18 instead of RM9.
The 60kW DC charger with two nozzles has dynamic power sharing and that means the total 60kW capacity is split into two if more than one EV is connected to the DC charger at the same time. The kWh-based pricing is fairer to all users as you still pay the same cost per kWh whether you’re getting 30kW or 60kW of DC charging.
If you’re driving an EV with a single-phase onboard charger like the BYD Atto 3, BYD Dolphin or the Ora Good Cat, you should use the 22kW AC charge point to get the maximum AC charging speed possible.
New 60kW DC Charger at Proton 3S JM Otomobile Inovatif
Alternatively, there’s also another DC charger deployed by Gentari located at Proton 3S JM Otomobil Inovatif which is about 6km away from Hotel Perdana. This charger is also a 60kW DC charging unit with two CCS2 nozzles. However, it still uses time-based pricing of RM1.40 per minute. At the moment, the charger is configured for single nozzle use only.
