Mydin and ChargeSini have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to deploy more EV charging stations as well as promote the adoption of EVs in Malaysia. Under the MOU, ChargeSini said it will be setting up a total of 24 EV charging stations at Mydin outlets nationwide.

The charging station deployment at Mydin will be implemented in two phases starting with 12 outlets which are targeted to be operational on 1st December 2023. This is followed by the subsequent 12 outlets on 1st February 2024. According to ChargeSini, the strategic initiative represents a combined investment of RM3 million to RM3.5 million, symbolising both Mydin and ChargeSini’s commitment to a sustainable and eco-conscious future.

The 24 charging stations will utilise DC chargers with a capacity of 60kW.

Mydin is one of Malaysia’s largest retail chains in Malaysia which spans over 60 outlets nationwide. Hypermarts are among the practical locations to install EV charge points where shoppers can conveniently top up their cars during the grocery run.

Last year, Mydin signed a one-year exclusive agreement with Ecoride to install EV charging stations at selected Mydin branches starting with Mydin Mutiara Rini in Johor Bahru. Their chargers can also be found at Mydin Subang Jaya.

In Q3 2023, ChargeSini deployed a total of 162 EV charging points across 46 locations throughout Malaysia. At the moment, they have more than 300 EV charge points which predominantly cover residential developments.

Last month, the charge point operator switched on its largest DC charging hub at The Curve, Mutiara Damansara which features four 47kW DC chargers. With each unit having two CCS2 nozzles, ChargeSini’s charging location at The Curve can charge 8 EVs simultaneously.
