Oppo Find N3 Flip launching in China August 29, first flip phone with triple cameras

It’s only been nine months since Oppo launched the Find N2 Flip, and already the company is readying its replacement, in an apparent bid to capitalise on the hype surrounding the new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5. It’s been announced that the Find N3 Flip will be revealed in China tomorrow, August 29 at 2:30pm.

The new flip phone clearly sticks to the formula pioneered by its predecessor, although there are a few notable differences. Surprisingly, unlike Samsung and Motorola, Oppo isn’t jumping on the full-screen bandwagon, lacking a cover screen that takes up the entire front of the phone. Instead, the Find N3 Flip appears to be using the same 3.26-inch vertical cover screen as before, albeit with a revised interface that makes better use of that space.

Oppo has clearly forfeited a larger cover screen to fit more stuff in the Find N3 Flip than what was previously possible with flip phones, as reported by Gizmochina. For one, the battery capacity—already the highest in the industry—grows from 4,300mAh to a massive 4,800mAh. It’s also rumoured that the device will support up to 67W of SuperVOOC fast charging, an increase from the Find N2 Flip’s 44W.

But perhaps the biggest news is that the Find N3 Flip will be the first flip phone to feature a triple-camera setup (set in a circular camera bump that continues to carry Hasselblad branding), with the addition of what Oppo calls a “professional portrait lens.” Judging by the use of similar language to describe the Reno 10 series’ third camera, it’s likely that this is a telephoto camera, as evidenced by the “2x” icon on the camera interface in the teaser video (shown below).

Rumour has it the Find N3 Flip’s telephoto shooter will have a resolution of 32MP, complementing the existing 50MP main, 8MP ultra-wide and 32MP inner selfie cameras. It should be noted that Huawei P50 Pocket also featured three cameras, although one of those was a multi-spectral sensor to increase colour accuracy.

Unlike its competitors, the Find N3 Flip will reportedly continue to utilise a MediaTek chipset rather than a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, this time a Dimensity 9200 instead of the 9000+. It’s also said the phone will have up to 16GB of RAM (up from 8GB before) and 512GB of storage.

While the Find N2 Flip was sold outside China, a global release for the Find N3 Flip is anything but a given. Its larger sibling, the Find N2, as well as the latest Find X6 flagship, were reserved for Oppo’s home market, so here’s hoping the new model escapes that fate.
