U Mobile has revealed that it is conducting a 5G Trial for more postpaid and prepaid users on its network. Available for one week starting 30th June to 7th July 2023, selected active users can enjoy 5G at no extra cost.

According to the FAQ, selected active users on the following plans will be allowed to access the 5G network at full speed:

U Mobile Prepaid (Subscribed before 21st June)

  • GX12
  • GX30
  • GX38
  • GX43

U Mobile Postpaid

  • Giler Unlimited GX50
  • Unlimited Hero Postpaid 78

After the trial period, Prepaid GX users are still able to access the 5G network but speeds will be capped (3-12Mbps) according to their respective subscription plans. Meanwhile, selected postpaid subscribers on Giler Unlimited GX50 and Postpaid P78 can continue to enjoy 5G but with a capped speed of 5-6Mbps according to their respective subscriptions.

To enjoy full 5G speeds starting 7th July, prepaid users can purchase Speed Boosters that are priced at RM1 for 2 hours or RM5 for 24 hours from the MyUMobile app. Meanwhile, postpaid users can purchase a 5G Data Booster at RM10 or a hotspot booster at RM5 from the MyUMobile app.

To access 5G, users will need to be within Digital Nasional Berhad’s 5G coverage and use a 5G-compatible device. You can check the coverage areas here.

At the moment, the current U Mobile prepaid plans offer 5G as a daily speed booster or a weekend unlimited 5G perk. For postpaid, 5G is offered with no restriction on its current Unbeatable postpaid plans which starts from RM38/month for 60GB of data to RM98/month for 1000GB of data.

In case you missed it, U Mobile recently introduced U Home 5G, its wireless 5G broadband offering that offers “unlimited” 5G with no contract and speed caps. There’s no wireless router included and it comes with a Fair Usage Policy (FUP) of 1000GB a month, which is still quite generous. If you need more data, you can add-on another 1000GB for RM30/month.
