[ UPDATE 08/06/2023 23:00 ] Volvo EX30 officially launched. Will it come to Malaysia with a sub-RM200,000 price tag?

Volvo has announced that it is revealing the EX30 on 7th June and it’s their smallest fully electric SUV yet. Ahead of the global debut, Volvo has released a teaser video which provides a quick glimpse of the new EX30.

Get ready for the fully electric Volvo EX30 small SUV

Based on the model number, the EX30 is expected to be smaller than the current XC40 and C40 EVs. It could possibly share Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform like the Smart #1, Smart #3 and the Zeekr X, Overall, this seems to be Sweden’s answer to Hyundai’s all-new Kona electric.

From the rear profile, the EX30 shares a similar boxy SUV design as the current XC40 but it features split taillights taken from their current EX90 flagship EV SUV. Meanwhile, the Thor hammer signature headlights appear to be extended with a split-dashed design and you can also expect a closed-off grille since there’s no internal combustion engine.

Being the smallest SUV, the EX30 could potentially be Volvo’s cheapest EV that sits below the current XC40. Depending on the electric motor and battery configuration, we might be seeing a sub-RM250,000 Volvo which makes it significantly more affordable than its European rivals such as the BMW iX1 and the Mercedes-Benz EQA.

The XC40 EV is currently priced at RM278,888 while the sportier-looking C40 is going for RM288,408. Both models which are locally assembled in Malaysia come with twin electric motors pushing over 400hp and have a range of more than 430km (WLTP) on a single charge.
