ChargEV by GreenTech Malaysia has teased an upcoming EV charger that’s located strategically at Berjaya Times Square in Bukit Bintang. From the teaser video, it looks like they are deploying Kempower EV chargers with Dynamic Power Sharing capabilities, similar to the one that’s used at Gentari’s EV Charging Hub in Bangi.

Unlike normal DC Chargers which can be bulky and noisy, Kempower’s EV solution looks more elegant and it comes with a couple of smart features. The chargers are using slim satellite terminals as shown above and it features spring mechanism cable management which makes handling a DC charging cable and nozzle as easy as a fuel pump.

Charging status on Kempower charger

In addition, these chargers come with an informative display which not only displays your current charging rate and the state of charge but also shows your real-time charging curve. In addition, there’s even a QR code which you can scan to get a remote view of your charging status including the charge curve. This is great for EVs that don’t have a connected app.

The biggest highlight of the Kempower charger is its dynamic power-sharing feature which makes it possible to have more charging nozzles at a location. With DC charging, not all cars will have the same power requirement as it is dependent on the stage of charge and the maximum power input supported by the vehicle. With dynamic power sharing, the charger can dynamically allocate more power to the next available vehicle which has a higher charge demand. This ensures that all available power capacity at the location is utilised and distributed effectively as shown in the video above.

200kW Kempower cabinet

Over at Gentari’s EV Charging hub at Bangi Golf Club, they have a single Kempower cabinet that can provide a total capacity of 200kW that’s shared with 4 nozzles but each nozzle is configured to deliver a maximum of 120kW.

According to ChargEV, their upcoming site would be their fastest EV charger yet. The teaser video shows two Kempower cabinets which is a sign that it could deliver a maximum total charging capacity of 400kW, that’s shared dynamically to several charging nozzles.

Since these chargers offer dynamic power output, ChargEV would have to adopt a kWh pricing model as pricing them by per-minute rate is just not fair and practical. It is likely that ChargEV will get an EVCS licence for their Berjaya Times Square charging hub which will enable them to charge users for DC charging for kWh consumed instead of parking time.
