Almost a year since YTL Communications’ Yes 5G rolled out commercial 5G services to consumers, the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G from 2020 is finally supported on its network. This was revealed by the telco on its Facebook page and customers can enjoy uncapped 5G speed and data if they pop in a Yes 5G SIM and reside within Digital Nasional Berhad’s coverage area.
At the moment, Yes 5G has a total of 31 5G-supported Samsung Galaxy devices which include both smartphones and tablets. While other telcos have recently started offering commercial 5G services to consumers, not all of them have the same list of supported devices. Yes also claimed to have the most Samsung Galaxy devices supported for 5G connectivity in Malaysia.
As mentioned before, Samsung devices may require a software update before they can connect to a telco’s 5G service. The newer Galaxy S21 Ultra was able to connect to Yes 5G when it received the One UI 4.1 update back in March, and recently, it could also connect to Unifi Mobile’s 5G service after it was updated to One UI 5 with Android 13. If you’re using the Galaxy S20 Ultra with Yes 5G but still couldn’t connect to 5G within a 5G-covered area, be sure to update your phone’s software to the latest version.
At the moment, DNB’s 5G network has 36% 5G population coverage with a total of 2,715 sites as of 31st October 2022. In case you missed it, the wholesale network has recently turned on 5G coverage in both Kuching and Kota Kinabalu.
