It has been a year since Sony launched its waterproof Xperia Tablet Z at MWC 2013. Now it seems that Sony is about to release a replacement model at the coming MWC 2014 and it could be called the Xperia Tablet Z2.
EVleaks has just tweeted what claims to be the specs of the upcoming waterproof tablet which is said to be running on a 2.3GHz Quad-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with 3GB of RAM. The rest of the features appear to be unchanged with a 10.1″ Full HD display, 8MP rear camera and a front facing 2MP camera. It even maintains the same battery capacity of 6,000mAh. In terms of thickness, the new model is able to shred additional mm off with a purported 6.4mm thickness. As comparison, the current Xperia Tablet Z has a thickness of 6.9mm while the Xperia Z Ultra is at 6.5mm.
Apart from the processor and memory upgrade, we wonder if Sony is featuring front stereo speakers as seen in the leaked Xperia Z2 photos. The current Xperia Tablet Z features 4 speakers with 2 speakers placed on each corner. In addition, the new tablet is expected to run on the very latest Android 4.4.2 Jelly Bean.
If the new Xperia Tablet is announced at MWC 2014, we could expect it to launch in our region at next month’s Jakarta Sony event.
