To support the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15) movement, Malaysia Airlines has added more flights and capacity for the polling weekend. They have increased the number of flights from 26 to 44 and upgraded 16 to 24 domestic services to its wide-body Airbus A330 aircraft on several routes in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak to ensure smooth reliable connectivity to voters.
For those who plan to return to their hometowns to cast their votes on 19th November, Malaysia Airlines are still offering 20% discount on one-way all-inclusive fares starting from RM104 through its “Jom Balik Mengundi” campaign for bookings made by 19th November 2022 for the travel period between 11th to 27th November 2022. The 20% discount is applicable to all fare categories including Lite, Basic and Flex for Economy Class, as well as Basic and Flex for Business Class on their website.
Students aged between 18 to 26 years can enjoy 30% off on Malaysia Airlines and Firefly flights, get an extra 10kg baggage allowance and one complimentary date change if they sign up as an MHexplorer member. MHexplorer members also get to enjoy 10% off on selected products on Temptations and Firely’s online store, family and friends’ discounts, 20% off Firefly air cargo and other extra deals.
Commenting on the extra capacity, Malaysia Airlines Berhad Group CEO Captain Izham Ismail said “Since the launch of “Jom Balik Mengundi” on 20 October 2022, bookings on Malaysia Airlines have surged by 7% over our daily average, with nearly 70,000 passenger bookings. We have also increased the capacity by 30% to main domestic destination within Peninsular Malaysia such as Penang and Kota Bharu as well as Sabah and Sarawak. With a few states including Penang and Selangor, declaring public holidays on 18 November 2022 to allow more Malaysians to travel home to vote in the general election, customers are urged to book tickets early for the best rates on Malaysia Airlines. There are 140,000 seats made available by optimising all our fleet to support both air transport movements via Malaysia Airlines during GE15.”
Following the announcement of the polling date for GE15 in mid-octber, air ticket fares have soared exponentially as Malaysians scramble to book flights to return to their registered constituency. A week later, MAVCOM, the body which regulates the airline industry, said the average airfare has decreased with one-way flights within Peninsular Malaysia costing RM185 while flights between Peninsular and East Malaysia costing RM296. To ensure affordability for airfares, they have requested airlines to increase flights and capacity for the GE15 week, and they will support them by facilitating and approving all route applications.
Here’s the list of extra flight frequencies as well as upgraded flights with Airbus A330 aircraft for Malaysia Airlines during the GE15 weekend.
