Here are the best postpaid plans in Malaysia - Oct 2022 Edition

Although prepaid plans now offer great value, postpaid plans still remain a popular option as you don’t have to worry about monthly reloads and pass activation. Similar to prepaid, there are various postpaid plans available in Malaysia that cater to different consumers. To help you decide on which postpaid plan to get, we will highlight the best “unlimited”, best value for money high-speed data, best low monthly commitment, best data roaming and also the best family line options.

Best “Unlimited” Postpaid Plan in Malaysia

For users who want to download and stream as much as possible on their phones without worrying about running out of data, here are a couple of “unlimited” recommendations. Similar to prepaid, these plans typically come with a fair usage policy (FUP) where your speeds will be throttled down once you’ve hit the “fair” limit. Thankfully, most of these “unlimited” postpaid plans come with a higher FUP threshold which is to be expected when you’re paying more than prepaid.

Celcom Mega 98 Unlimited

Celcom Mega 98 Unlimited at RM98/month offers unlimited data that has a speed cap of 10Mbps. The plan also comes with unlimited calls to all networks and 10GB of hotspot quota each month. SMS are not included and are charged at 20 sen each. At the moment, they are offering an online exclusive rebate where you can get RM30 x 6 months and RM20 off on the 4th month if you sign up online.

For this plan, Celcom didn’t specify a hard quota for its fair usage policy (FUP) but it is mentioned that they may at its absolute discretion manage your allocated bandwidth to ensure fair access to all Celcom customers on the same network with or without prior notice. Digi Infinite 55 and 75

Next on the list is Digi Postpaid Infinite 55 and 75 which are currently offered for a limited time. The Infinite 55 plan offers unlimited internet that’s speed capped at 6Mbps, unlimited calls and 10GB of hotspot data. If you need faster speeds, Infinite 75 offers the same perks but with a higher speed cap of 12Mbps. SMS are not included and it costs 10 sen each.

If you’re willing to sign up for the Inifnite 55 or 75 plan with a 12-month contract, Digi is bundling free Freedom add-ons. You can choose one of the following:

10GB (Postpaid Infinite 55) or 20GB (Postpaid Infinite 75) of highspeed quota
Unlimited High-Speed Social (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and TikTok)
Unlimited High-Speed Video Streaming (Netflix, YouTube, Astro Go, Viu, Unifi PlayTV and Daily Motion
Unlimited High-Speed Gaming (League of Legends, Mobile Legends, League of Legends Wild Rift, PUBG, Call of Duty, Free Fire, Arena of Valor)

According to the T&C, the Infinite 55 and 75 plans have an FUP of 600GB, which is still pretty generous.

Digi Postpaid 150 with Unlimited Add-on

If you prefer an unlimited postpaid plan with no speed cap, you can consider Digi Postpaid 150 and add-on Unlimited Internet & Hotspot. This offer is somewhat similar to the old Digi Postpaid Infinite 150 which was introduced several years ago.

The Postpaid 150 plan which costs RM150/month offers unlimited calls, free 1000SMS and 90GB of data. As part of its current Juara Internet special promo, the plan now offers 45GB of extra quota and RM15 monthly rebate for the first 12 months. So essentially, you’re getting 135GB of high-speed data for RM135/month.

In order to enjoy unlimited data and unlimited hotspot, you’ll need to sign up for a 12-month contract and pick “Unlimited Internet + Hotspot” as your preferred Freedom Add-on. According to the T&C, the unlimited internet and unlimited hotspot add-on has an FUP of 999GB which is definitely more than enough for most hardcore data users.

Unifi Mobile Postpaid Ultimate

Telekom Malaysia is also offering an unlimited mobile data with its Unifi Mobile Postpaid Ultimate Plan. Originally priced at RM99/month, it offers unlimited data, calls and SMS, along with 10GB of hotspot data. At the moment, the plan is offered for RM79/month. It can be yours for only RM59/month if you sign up with a 12-month contract.

At the moment, there’s no mention of a hard FUP for its unlimited usage in their FAQ but users are urged to use a device that can support LTE Band 5 (850MHz). If you need more hotspot, an additional 500MB costs RM8 while 1GB costs RM15. You can learn more about the plan here.

Yes Infinite Basic

If you want to experience 5G, the only postpaid option right now is Yes Infinite Postpaid. For RM58/month, the Basic plan offers unlimited 5G and 4G data with no FUP, unlimited calls and also 10GB of hotspot data. If you need more hotspot quota, you can upgrade to higher Infinite postpaid options or claim extra data for free via Yes 5G Databack with Shopee. You can learn more about the plan here.

Best High-speed data postpaid plan in Malaysia

If you don’t care about unlimited and rather have a postpaid plan that offers uncapped high-speed data, here are several plans to consider.

Hotlink Postpaid 60

In case you didn’t know, Hotlink also offers postpaid plans which are more affordable than Maxis Postpaid that starts from RM98/month for 50GB of data. The Hotlink Postpaid 60 offers 30GB of data as well as unlimited calls and SMS for RM60/month. However, you’ll get upgraded to 40GB for 12 months if you sign up with a 12-month contract. Xpax Postpaid 60

If you prefer a plan that uses Celcom’s network, you can consider the Xpax Postpaid 60 which offers 20GB of high-speed data and unlimited calls plus unlimited YouTube, Facebook and Instagram for RM60/month. At the moment, Celcom is offering double the quota with a total of 40GB for the first 12 months and you can also enjoy RM10 monthly rebate for 6 months if you sign up online.

Celcom Mega 80

If 40GB data on Xpax Postpaid 60 isn’t enough, the next option is Celcom Mega 80 at RM80/month. With the current promo, the plan is now upgraded with a total of 50GB of data for the first 12 months and you also get unlimited calls. Celcom is also offering RM15 rebate for 6 months if you sign up online.

U Postpaid 68 and 98

U Mobile has recently revamped its postpaid line up by replacing the older “unlimited” plans with newer options with lots of high-speed data quota. The U Postpaid 68 offers 100GB of high-speed data while the higher U Postpaid 98 offers a whopping 1000GB of data. Both also comes with unlimited calls and also free 15GB of roaming data and incoming calls while travelling. Do note that hotspot usage is limited to just 5GB per month and you’ll have to purchase extra hotspot boosters if you need more. You can learn more about U Mobile postpaid plans here.

Digi Postpaid 60 and 90

Meanwhile, on Digi, there’s the Postpaid 60 and 90 plan which now gets 10GB of extra data for 12 months with the current Juara Internet promo. The Postpaid 60 plan at RM60/month comes with 40GB of data and unlimited calls. Meanwhile, the Postpaid 90 plan is now going for RM75/month (with RM15 rebate x 12 months) and it gets 60GB of data, unlimited calls and free 300 SMS.

Best low monthly commitment postpaid plan in Malaysia

If you don’t want to spend too much on a postpaid plan, here are several options that cost RM40 and below.

Hotlink Postpaid 40

The Hotlink Postpaid 40 plan costs RM40/month and it comes with 12GB of data as well as unlimited calls and SMS. At the moment, they are bumping the high-speed data quota to 20GB for the first 12 months. You can learn more about Hotlink postpaid here.

Xpax Postpaid 40

The next option is Xpax Postpaid 40 at RM40/month which comes with 10GB of high-speed data, unlimited calls and unlimited YouTube, Facebook and Instagram (FUP: 150GB). Digi Postpaid 40

Similar to Hotlink and Xpax, Digi is also offering a Postpaid 40 plan at RM40/month which comes with unlimited calls plus 20GB of data for the first 12 months. U Postpaid 38

For better value for money, U Mobile’s U Postpaid 38 offers 30GB of data and unlimited calls for only RM38/month. Similar to U Postpaid 68 and 98, the plan only offers 5GB of hotspot per month and you’ll have to purchase extra boosters if you need more.

RedOne Amazing 8 and 38

The most affordable postpaid on our list is RedOne’s Amazing 8 plan which costs just RM8/month. It comes with 1GB of high-speed data and unlimited free calls among RedOne postpaid users. The next step up is RedOne Amazing 38 at RM38/month which comes with unlimited calls to all networks, 20GB of high-speed data and an additional 30GB of RedDaily. The RedDaily data is automatically activated and you’ll get 1GB of data daily with a speed cap of 3Mbps.

Best postpaid data roaming in Malaysia

Whether you’re a frequent traveller or plan to go on holiday abroad soon, several telcos are offering free or affordable roaming passes on postpaid.

U Postpaid 68 and 98 Free Roaming

Among all telcos, U Mobile has an unbeatable free data roaming offer for its U Postpaid 68 and 98 plans. Users are given free 15GB of data roaming and free incoming calls when travelling to 63 destinations as listed above. You can learn more about the bundled roaming data here.

Digi Postpaid “Roam Like Home”

Digi is also offering free “Roam like Home” as a Freedom Add-on if you sign up for Digi Postpaid 90 and above. The monthly roaming pass is normally priced at RM35/month and it offers 10GB of roaming data, 60 minutes of roaming voice calls and 60 minutes of IDD calls each month. To enjoy this perk, you’ll need to sign up for the eligible Digi Postpaid plan on a 12-month contract and select “Roam Like Home” as your preferred free add-on.

Take note that the Roam Like Home feature is only applicable in 10 countries such as Australia, Brunei, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand. You can learn more about Digi postpaid plans here.

Maxis Weekly and Monthly “Unlimited” Roaming

Besides the usual RM29/day “unlimited” data pass, Maxis is also offering weekly and monthly “unlimited” roaming passes which can be used in multiple countries. The 7-day ASEAN “unlimited” data pass costs RM49 and it allows you to roam in Brunei, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Laos, Macau, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand & Vietnam throughout the validity period.

If you’re travelling for an extended period of time across even more countries, there’s the 30 Days World “unlimited” data pass which costs RM99. It covers more than 60 countries which include the US, the UK, China, India, Australia, New Zealand, UAE, Qatar, Turkey, France, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and more.

Despite being “unlimited”, the roaming passes have a daily FUP of 2GB a day. After you’ve hit your daily limit, your speed will be throttled to 1Mbps, which is still pretty decent. If you’ve already activated the RM29/day daily roaming pass, Maxis says you are able to upgrade to the weekly or monthly pass before your current roaming pass expires.

Take note that voice calls are not included with these roaming passes. In selected countries, Maxis has a RM15/day calls and unlimited pass which is activated automatically if you answer or receive just one voice call overseas, which can be an expensive affair. Maxis will also charge the RM15/day call roaming pass if an incoming call goes into voice mail while roaming.

Best family postpaid supplementary line in Malaysia

If you need additional lines for your family members or other devices, here are several supplementary postline plans for your consideration.

U Family Share

If you’re on U Mobile U Postpaid 98, you can get extra postpaid lines for RM38/month each. The plan comes with unlimited calls to all networks and it shares the same 1000GB high-speed data quota from the main principal line. If you’re a Digi Postpaid user, you can add on Digi Family supplementary plans which start from RM20/month. The base Family 20 costs RM20/month and it offers unlimited calls and 10GB of high-speed data. The next option is Family 30 at RM30/month with unlimited calls and 25GB of high-speed data. Celcom Mega Family Plan

On Celcom, the Mega Family Plan costs RM40/month each and they are now offering a 50% off promo for 6 months if you sign up two Family Plan lines.

The Mega Family Plan comes with unlimited calls and users can choose between having 30GB of high-speed data or an unlimited data option that has a speed cap of 6Mbps. Other things to look out for before subscribing

Before signing up for a plan, do note that coverage is also an important factor to consider. There’s no point to have the cheapest postpaid plan if you can’t make full use of it due to poor reception and network congestion in your area.

If you’re planning to switch to another telco on a contract, you could give it a try by getting a prepaid SIM. You can also use third party tools such as Opensignal to get a better idea of each telco’s download speed and service availability in your area.
