If you’ve purchased AirAsia X’s RM499 Unlimited Pass or flight tickets before the movement control order in 2020, AirAsia has announced that it will be issuing travel vouchers to affected passengers. This comes after AirAsia X has resumed commercial services following its debt restructuring exercise.
AirAsia X to issue vouchers in the coming months
According to the airline, everyone with unused credit with AirAsia X will automatically receive a travel voucher for use for booking travel up to five years in advance via their registered AirAsia rewards account. The validity is longer than the usual 2-year period for a credit account. The travel vouchers will be issued within the next three months and are non-transferable.
AirAsia has also confirmed to us that customers who purchased the RM499 Unlimited Travel pass but were unable to use it are also eligible to receive the travel voucher. The first unlimited pass had offered unlimited “Free seats” to AirAsia X destinations including Australia, Japan, China, Korea, India and Honolulu (via Osaka) for one year. Its validity was extended once until 30th June 2021, however, pass holders were unable to utilise it as international borders were still closed for tourism.
Affected AirAsia X customers to get extra 0.5% one-off payment for unused credit
In addition to the travel voucher, guests affected by the restructuring process will also receive a one-off payment of 0.5% for their unused travel credit on the first anniversary of the completion of the Debt Restructuring (March 2023) as well as portions of AirAsia X’s profits in the coming years. This is subject to the terms of the Profit Sharing Mechanism outlined in the Explanatory Statement.
According to the FAQ on the Explanatory Statement, affected guests will receive 0.5% of their paid ticket fee plus any profit-sharing amount from 2023 to 2026. However, if the EBITDAR (‘Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, amortisation and restructuring or rent costs’.) is less than RM300 million for the financial years ending 2023-2026, the profit-sharing mechanism will not be triggered and you’ll receive 0.5% of the amount owing.

AirAsia will provide more details on the travel vouchers when they send an email to all affected customers.
With the reopening of international borders and relaxation of COVID-19 requirements, AirAsia is confident that domestic and international flights will return to pre-COVID levels by the end of 2022. AirAsia X has resumed flights from Kuala Lumpur to Sydney, as well as New Delhi and Seoul. Customers with outstanding credit can utilise their balance to book AirAsia X flights before 30th June 2022. After the date, the unused credit will be converted to travel vouchers.
On the issue of refunds, AirAsia Aviation Group Limited (excludes AirAsia X) announced last month that it has settled 99% of cash refund requests and it aims to refund the remaining USD 14.66 million (RM63.9 million) or 0.8% to passengers in the coming months.
