With the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 3, Samsung has cemented itself as the leader when it comes to foldable devices right now. However, Xiaomi may be plotting a new foldable of their own to counter the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3.
According to serial leakster Bald Panda on Weibo, the Xiaomi Mix Fold might be getting a refresh of sorts. The Chinese giant are planning to upgrade the original Mix Fold by giving it new high refresh rate displays on both the main and cover screen. It would also come with the Xiaomi HyperCharge 120W fast charging technology for its 5,000mAh battery. Their HyperCharge technology has already debuted on the Xiaomi 11T Pro of course.
But the biggest change would be an additional under-display selfie camera on the internal display. In comparison, the original Mix Fold didn’t have any camera on the internal display at all, instead relying on a 20MP selfie camera by the external cover display. This would make it the second Xiaomi device to have an under-display camera, with the first being the Xiaomi Mix 4 released in China back in August. It also only had 67W fast charging, though ever so slightly edges out in battery capacity with a 5,020mAh battery.
Unfortunately, it’s still uncertain if it would be available in global markets. So far, the original Xiaomi Mix Fold remains for sale in China only. It also remains to be seen if these minor changes are enough to warrant it being branded a Mix Fold 2, or merely a refresh of the original Mix Fold. Despite that, if Xiaomi does decide to go forward with these changes, it would much more closely rival the Galaxy Z Fold 3.
