COVID-19: New cases jump to 8,868 today, 4,152 reported in Selangor

After two days of recording more than 7,000 cases, new COVID-19 cases have risen to 8,868 today. This is the highest reported since 29th May and Malaysia has now recorded a total of 808,658 positive cases.

Pulau Pinang – 237 (36,054)
Kelantan – 135 (35,751)
Perak – 543 (28,517)
Kedah – 360 (27,421)
Melaka – 183 (20,540)
Pahang – 152 (15,387)
Terengganu – 68 (11,589)
WP Labuan – 64 (8,922)
WP Putrajaya – 47 (2,495)
Perlis – 1 (602)

According to the breakdown shared by Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham, Selangor recorded the most with 4,152 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 1,133 cases, Negeri Sembilan with 897 and Perak with 543 cases.

Today also marks a record high number of COVID-19 fatalities with 135 deaths, bringing the death toll to 5,903. Meanwhile, there are 5,802 recoveries and 725,480 patients who have recovered and been discharged so far.

There are currently 77,275 active cases that are receiving treatment. 952 are in ICU while 445 require respiratory support.
