Malaysia has recorded 5,218 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 739,266. There are 57 new deaths reported and the death toll is now 5,001.

The Ministry of Health has reported 4,744 new recoveries and a total of 672,453 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 90.96% while the mortality rate is at 0.68%.

There are currently 61,812 active cases remaining that are receiving treatment. 899 are in ICU while 451 require respiratory support.

Out of the 5,218 new cases today, 7 are imported while 5,211 are transmitted locally. Selangor records the most with 1,989 cases, followed by Negeri Sembilan with 629 cases, Kuala Lumpur with 469 cases and Sarawak with 409 cases.

A total of 22 clusters have been reported today and 16 are workplace-related. Below is the breakdown of new clusters identified today.

Responding to allegations that factories are the main contributor of new cases, Minister of International Trade and Industry Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said it is untrue as most cases are now sporadic. He said based on the Ministry of Health’s data, 25% of new cases are from clusters and 75% are sporadic.

He added that positive cases recorded from the manufacturing sector and factories are only between 5-10% only and it isn’t right to place the blame on the economic sector.
