Malaysia has recorded 5,566 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 627,652. There are 76 new deaths reported and the death toll is now 3,536.

The Ministry of Health has reported 6,962 new recoveries and a total of 541,319 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 86.25% while the mortality rate is now 0.56%.

There are currently 82,797 active cases remaining that are receiving treatment. 903 are in ICU while 458 require respiratory support.

Out of the 5,566 new cases today, 4 are imported while 5,562 are transmitted locally. Selangor records the most with 1,524 new cases, followed by Sarawak with 707 cases, Negeri Sembilan with 505 cases and Kuala Lumpur with 466 cases.

The Ministry of Health has identified a total of 24 new clusters today and 15 are workplace related. Below is the full list of identified clusters:

While the number of new daily cases has shown a decline, it is also worth pointing out that Malaysia has been conducting fewer tests in the past week. As highlighted by Dr Amar-Singh HSS, the number of COVID-19 tests conducted daily has been hovering below the 100,000 mark.

In the last 24 hours, Malaysia has tested 77,030 individuals and the positivity rate today is 7.23%.

Telling us daily case numbers are coming down
without adjusting for testing numbers
or test positivity
is meaningless.
Cases will come down if we test less.

Test positivity remains high.

The average positivity rate in the past week is above the WHO’s threshold of 5%. This is an indication that more testing is required to detect more infected individuals in the community.

For those who wanted an update on this chart & testing numbers.
No meaningful drop in numbers yet.
