Besides the Redmi 9T, Xiaomi Malaysia has also announced the arrival of its Mi 65W GaN charger. This compact charger doesn’t just fast charge your smartphone, but also your laptop and other USB-C powered devices.

The Mi 65W Fast Charger with GaN Tech is officially priced at RM119 in Malaysia and it comes with a 5A USB-C to USB-C (1-metre) cable. The charger will be available for purchase from the 9th January 2021 via Shopee and Lazada.

The GaN charger comes only in white and Xiaomi Malaysia is offering the 2-pin (EU) plug version. It claims to be 48% smaller than a standard Mi Laptop adapter with dimensions of 80 x 30 x 30mm (excluding the pin).

The compact size is made possible with Gallium Nitride (GaN) which is a more efficient semiconductor compared to silicon. The charger only comes with a single USB-C port that pushes a maximum of 65W for laptops and up to 50W for smartphones. It’s powerful enough to charge most USB-C powered laptops including the MacBook Pro 13.

According to Xiaomi, it can fully charge a Mi 10 Pro from 0 to 100% in just 45 minutes. It supports both Mi Fast Charging and USB Power Delivery 3.0 charging protocols.

With the retail price of RM119, it is not bad considering it comes with an extra cable. As a comparison, Apple’s original 20W USB-C PD charger costs RM99 while the original bulky 61W USB-C Power adapter for the MacBook Pro 13 costs RM319. If you prefer a power adapter that can charge multiple devices at the same time, you can easily find other GaN chargers that come with 2 ports or more.
