Adidas X9000 L4 first look: A tribute to the digital world… on your feet

We have a new pair of Adidas shoes in the office! Today’s video is going to be a short and sweet breakdown  of the Adidas X9000 L4—pair of shoes which fuses sports and “precise data”. Have a watch, and let me know if this is going to be your next pair of running shoes… or just a pair of shoes to complement your streetwear getup.

Basically, Adidas says that the design of the X9000 series is inspired by video game culture, with a focus on the cyberpunk aesthetic. The X9000 L4, in Grey and  Night Metallic colours, takes this on with a retro look, and the bright orange and grey highlights on the upper give the shoes some really neon-esque colours.

Compared to the previous generation X9000 L3, the L4 looks a lot more garish, like it has more of a streetwear vibe to it. The L3, on the other hand, looks a lot more muted and has more of an understated look—-which has its own charm.

Regardless, these are running shoes, and as such, they feature an adaptive traction profile—supposedly inspired by computer-generated data—to offer traction in different terrain.

“Cyber Energy” on your feet

The X9000 L4 features the well-known BOOST midsole, which merges with the upper to provide “energy return” to your feet when running.

For certain colourways, the exterior of this midsole is iridescent in colour—bringing out a “Cyber Energy” in runners. Look closely at the “Glitch” outsole, and you might notice Adidas’ groove design that replicates the intricacies of electronic data.

Meanwhile, there’s also a “smart chip” that’s designed to ensure stability for runners—helping your performance with something they’re calling Adaptive Grip. In fact, the shoes feature something called Adaptive Locked-in Fit, which basically aims to offer comfort and support—crucial elements of a pair of running shoes.

They feel great on my feet, too

I have to say, these feel great on my feet. I get where Adidas is going with the cyberpunk aesthetic, although perhaps this isn’t so obvious with this particular colour option.

I don’t know about you, but I think these would look good for everyday use—just like a lot of Adidas’ running shoes. So far, these feel just right on my feet. Snug, comfy, and really, really light. That’s probably my favourite thing about them.

I might take these for a couple of runs and share my thoughts with you guys in a full review (I mean, if you want to hear the thoughts of a guy who isn’t fit enough to call himself a runner). Let me know if this is something you’re looking forward to!

If you’re keen to pick up a pair for yourself, the Adidas X9000 L4 is available in Malaysia for RM600. Click here to find out more.
